Rachel Broughton

A partner at Averta since 2008, Rachel advises on the full range of employment issues and is an experienced Tribunal advocate. Recent cases include advising a departing managing director of a PLC in a complex compromise agreement involving disputes over bonus payments and share options, acting for a director of a large local authority in a high value equal pay claim and acting for a senior director through a grievance process involving sensitive issues of discrimination.

Rachel has considerable advocacy experience and represents clients in tribunal, recently representing a client in a successful five day age discrimination claim. Rachel has also secured significant settlements for clients through mediation including sensitive and complex sexual harassment claims.

Rachel is a member of the Birmingham Law Society, Employment Lawyers Association and Birmingham Future.

Cases recently handled include:

Assisting a senior Director on termination of an expatriate contract and the transfer negotiations;

Advising a senior Director on severance negotiations in the context of discrimination claims and constructive unfair dismissal;

Acting for clients in large scale redundancy and re organisation programmes;

Acting for and representing a Local Authority client in a union backed multi claimant action under the National minimum wage and working time regulations and High Court Litigation arising from a job evaluation exercise.
